Importing Address Books into Webmail (from common imap clients)

How to copy your local address books from your imap email client into Webmail:


Windows

Macintosh


Outlook 2002

  1. Launch Outlook 2002. Click on File in the menu bar and select Import and Export....
  2. In the Import and Export Wizard window, choose Export to a file and click on Next.
  3. On the next screen, select Comma Separted Values (Windows) and click on Next.
  4. Select Contacts as the folder to export from and click on Next.
  5. Click on the Browse button (to select where to save file)
  6. Rename file to something that you will recognize
  7. Click Next.
  8. Click Finish.
  9. Log in to Webmail through your internet browser and click on Address Book on the left.
  10. Click on Import/Export at the top of the page.
  11. Make sure .CSV is selected as file type to import and then click on Browse.
  12. Browse to the location where you saved the file (in steps above) and select the file. Click on Open.
  13. Click on Import Now.


Outlook 2000

  1. Click File
  2. Select Import and Export
  3. Select Export to a File
  4. Click Next
  5. Click No if you get the AutoArchive option
  6. Select Comma Separated Values(Windows)
  7. Click Next
  8. Select Contacts (to export from)
  9. Click Next
  10. Click Browse button (to select where to save file)
  11. Rename file to something that you will recognize
  12. Click OK
  13. Click Next
  14. Click Finish
  15. Log in to Webmail through your internet browser and click on Address Book on the left.
  16. Click on Import/Export at the top of the page.
  17. Make sure .CSV is selected as file type to import and then click on Browse.
  18. Browse to the location where you saved the file (in steps above) and select the file. Click on Open.
  19. Click on Import Now.


Outlook Express 5.0

  1. Click File
  2. Highlight Export and Select Address book
  3. Select Text File(Comma Separated Values)
  4. Click Export
  5. Click Browse
  6. Select where you want to save the file. Rename file (save as type: Comma Separated Values[.csv]
  7. Click Save
  8. Click Next
  9. Select the fields you want to export
  10. Click Finish
  11. Log in to Webmail through your internet browser and click on Address Book on the left.
  12. Click on Import/Export at the top of the page.
  13. Make sure .CSV is selected as file type to import and then click on Browse.
  14. Browse to the location where you saved the file (in steps above) and select the file. Click on Open.
  15. Click on Import Now.


Outlook Express 6.0

  1. In the Address Book, on the File menu, click on Export->Other Address Book.
  2. Select Text File (Comma Separated Values), and then click on Export button.
  3. Click on Browse button and browse to where you would like to have the file saved to such as Desktop and in the file name box, name it such as contacts1 or contacts2 etc. Click on Next button
  4. In the CSV Export window, select the fields you wish to export by clicking on or deselecting fields you may not use or want exported (note: not all fields import, and will need to be verified after completion) Click on Finish. This should complete the export, just need to import now into Webmail.
  5. Log in to Webmail through your internet browser and click on Address Book on the left.
  6. Click on Import/Export at the top of the page.
  7. Make sure .CSV is selected as file type to import and then click on Browse.
  8. Browse to the location where you saved the file (in steps above) and select the file. Click on Open.
  9. Click on Import Now.


Netscape 4.7x

  1. Open the address book and select the Personal Address Book in the list on the left side of the window.
  2. Click on File>Export>fill in a file name and location to save the exported address book to and leave the "save as type" for the file format as *.ldif.
  3. Open a web browser and log into your webmail account.
  4. Select Address Book from the menu on the left.
  5. Select Import/Export from the menu at the top of the web page.
  6. On the first line under the Import section titled "Select a file type to import", change the drop down selection to .LDIF.
  7. On the second line, browse to or fill in the saved Netscape Messenger address book file location.
  8. If desired, select a category from the drop down menu under "Import to Category".
  9. Click on Import Now button.


Netscape 6.0 or 7.0

  1. Open the address book and select the Personal Address Book in the list on the left side of the window.
  2. Click on Tools>Export>fill in a file name and location to save the exported address book to and leave the "save as type" for the file format as *.ldif.
  3. Open a web browser and log into your webmail account.
  4. Select Address Book from the menu on the left.
  5. Select Import/Export from the menu at the top of the web page.
  6. On the first line under the Import section titled "Select a file type to import", change the drop down selection to .LDIF.
  7. On the second line, browse to or fill in the saved Netscape Messenger address book file location.
  8. If desired, select a category from the drop down menu under "Import to Category".
  9. Click on Import Now button.


Eudora 5.2

At this time there is not a recommended automated method for importing Eudora address books into Webmail. Please contact the HelpDesk at 568-3555 for further information.



OSX Mail

  1. Download and install Address Book Exporter (contact HelpDesk for more details).
  2. Click on Configure Settings to specify which fields you want export from the address books then say OK.
  3. From the Groups box on the left select the Group (or just select All if you didn't make other groups) that you want to export.
  4. Select Export using current field settings, then click Export Address Book.
  5. Rename the file if you want too (default is Exported Address Book.txt) and click on Save.
  6. Open Excel
  7. Open the file that the Address Book Exporter created.
  8. Excel should open the "Text Import Wizard"
    • On the first screen select "delimited" and Start import at row 1, click Next.
    • On the next screen select Tab from the Delimiters field, click Next.
    • On the next screen select general under "Column data format", then click Finish.
    • Go to file and select Save As. Under Format select CSV Windows, check Append file extension, click Save.
  9. Login to Webmail
  10. Go to Address Books
  11. Select Import/Export
  12. Select .CSV as the file type
  13. Click Browse and navigate to the file and select it then click on Open.
  14. Click on Import Now.


Entourage X

  1. Go to File
  2. Select Export Contacts
  3. Save the file (can only save as a .txt file)
  4. Open Excel
  5. Open the .txt file
  6. Excel should open the "Text Import Wizard"
    • On the first screen select "Delimited" and Start import at row 1, click Next
    • On the next screen select Tab and Comma from the Delimiters field, click next
    • On the next screen select General under "Column data format" click Finish
  7. Go to file and select Save As. Under Format select CSV Windows, check Append file extension, click Save
  8. Login to Webmail
  9. Go to Address Books
  10. Select Import/Export
  11. Select .CSV as the file type
  12. Click Browse and Navagaite to the file and select it then click on Open
  13. Click on Import Now
