Delivery and Read Receipts in Webmail




Delivery Receipts confirm that messages were successfully delivered to e-mail accounts (This option is only guaranteed to work within the JMU e-mail systems as other e-mail systems may not process e-mail delivery receipts).

Read Receipts enable you to request and/or respond to a Read Receipt in Webmail (This option is only guaranteed to work within the JMU e-mail systems as other e-mail systems may not process e-mail read receipts).

  1. Delivery Receipts and Read Receipts are turned off and on in Webmail Preferences.

  3. In Webmail click on Preferences in the navigational bar.
  4. In the Preference window notice the options for Delivery Receipts and Read Receipts.
  5.  
  6. Delivery Receipts if checked no will not be enabled.
  7. Delivery Receipts, if checked yes, will automatically be sent to your InBox.
  8. Read Receipt – Checking Never send a read receipt indicates that when you receive messages, the recipient will not have an option to return a read receipt.
  9. Ask me before sending a read receipt adds a line to each sent message requesting a read receipt from the recipient.

Enabling Delivery Receipts

  1. Check Delivery Receipts Yes in Preferences.
  2. Upon sending a message to another user a Delivery Receipt will be returned to your e-mail account.
  3. Delivery Receipt will appear in you Inbox.

  5. The Delivery Receipt message is listed below. The open message lists the success of the delivery and the e-mail name of the recipient.

Enabling Read Receipts

  1. Checking Never send a read receipt indicates that when you receive messages, the recipient will not have an option to return a read receipt.

  3. Checking Ask me before sending a read receipt adds a line to each message requiring a read receipt.
  4. When reading a new message in the InBox, a line will appear at the message portion of the InBox regarding Read Receipts.
  5. The graphic of an InBox below shows a new message with  Subject: Read receipt confirmation.  When the message is opened, a new option appears at the top of the message.

  7. This is the read receipt included in the message.  There is no separate read receipt box outside of the message.  Click on Yes or No.  If you click No, no read receipt will be sent.

  9. If you click Yes in the read receipt, a message will be returned to the sender.

  11. Below is the e-mail message that is returned.

  13. Note the confirmation that the message was displayed (read) by the recipient.
