Macintosh OS X Mail 1.3.9 (v619) Tutorial

Opening/Reading a Message

New messages are delivered to your In box by the mail server. You can see the message headers in your In box. The message header displays the name of the person who sent the message in the From column, the subject line of the message in the Subject column, and the date and time the message was received in the Date Received column. Additional icons may appear to the right of the message header, indicating the type of message (Unread, Reply, etc.).

Unread messages that are not replies appear with a blue button icon next to the message header. Messages that have been read do not have an icon next to the message header.

When you have received a reply to a message, a gray left-pointing arrow icon appears beside the header of the message.

You can view a message by clicking the header of the desired message to open it. You can also double-click the header of the desired message to open it in a new window. If you open the message in a new window, you can close it by clicking the close button on the title bar of the window.

Messages can also be read by scrolling the message body in the preview pane.
