Macintosh OS X Mail 1.3.9 (v619) Tutorial

Creating a New Folder

You can create new folders to help you organize OS X Mail items. For example, you can create a folder for a specific department or person and store all the messages pertaining to that the department or person in the folder.

New folders can be created as a folder directly under your personal folder or as a sub-folder under one of the existing folders, such as In box.

Exercise: Creating a New Folder

  1. Click Mailbox on the Menu Bar and then click on New...

  2. In the dialogue box, you can choose where you want the new mailbox (folder) to reside (On My Mac/Local or as an IMAP folder).

  3. Once created, you can manipulate and move the folder just at you would in Finder, including renaming and making a sub-folder (sub-directory).
