Advising Notes

View the JMU BS Elementary Education Transfer Guide in the Transfer Virginia Portal. This guide is intended to show you a 2+2 transfer pathway from a Virginia community college to a JMU Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Elementary Education.

Please Note: The state of Virginia no longer requires the VCLA (Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment) for teacher licensure. For the most up-to-date information on admission to JMU's College of Education and state licensure requirements, see Admission And Licensure Information.

JMU offers also offers a Bachelor of Individualized Study (B.I.S.) with a concentration in Elementary Education. Current instructional assistants working in a school system who have earned or are working toward a transferable associate degree may be eligible to pursue the online B.I.S. degree to prepare for a PK-6th grade Virginia teaching license. Learn more about the B.I.S.
