Priority Registration
Procedures for Priority Registration for Military Service Members
JMU will allow undergraduate students who are serving on active duty, members of the reserves or National Guard, and Veterans with other than a dishonorable discharge, priority registration status after the first semester’s enrollment. Dependents and spouses are not eligible for priority registration. Documentation of current or past military service (current GI Bill recipients do not need to provide documents) must be provided to a member of the Veterans Services team in the Office of the Registrar for verification. Acceptable documents include:
- DD 214 - Veteran
- Retired military identification card*
- DMV issued veteran card*
- Current military card – Reservists or National Guard*
- Eligibility for GI Bill (Chapter 30, Chapter 33, Chapter 1606, Chapter 1607)
- Eligibility for Vocational Rehabilitation benefits (Chapter 31)
- Federal or State Tuition Assistance Request form
- Veterans Affairs Certificate of Eligibility Letter
- Military Orders
*If providing this proof, please see us so you can sign a document. We cannot copy your military ID card.
Proof of military service must be received by:
- February 15th for the upcoming Fall registration
- September 15th for the upcoming Spring registration
Document Delivery:
- Scan and email to veteran@jmu.edu (preferred). Please use your JMU email account to submit documents
- Fax to 540-568-5615
- Drop off at the Office of the Registrar (Student Success Center 5th floor)
- Mail to 738 South Mason Street MSC 3528, Student SSC 5300, Harrisonburg VA 22807
