Summer Orientation is designed to help you feel prepared, connected, and excited for your JMU experience. You’ll meet fellow Dukes, learn about campus resources, and get the tools you need to start the semester with confidence. We can’t wait to welcome you to the JMU community!
Schedule Overview
7:30 a.m. - Check-In
After you park in the Mason Street Parking Deck, come grab your materials for the day in the Student Success Center. Check-in is required.
University Welcome
Campus administrators will officially welcome you to the JMU community and help to prepare you for the JMU learning experience.
Your College Home
We expect you to make informed decisions about your academic career. Based on your major, college leadership will share information about how to progress and be successful academically.
Meet Your Orientation Group
Your OPA will be instrumental in helping you with your transition. They have tips and information about what life will be like as a JMU student, and give you the scoop on how to succeed academically and socially.
Lunch
Use your meal voucher for a delicous lunch in one of our all-you-care-to-eat dining facilities.
Becoming a Duke
Learn about the expectations of being a part of the JMU community while learning about resources that can aid you in your transition.
Bridging the Gap: Making Connections
Coming to college provides opportunities to connect with new people and experiences. This session focuses on building the skills to make meaningful connections.
Campus Showcase
Learn about resources and programs that are here at JMU to support you. You'll have the chance to attend two breakout sessions, based on the selections you made while completing your Orienation Reservation and Declaring a Major step in the New Student Checklist.
What's Next?
Your OPA will provide you with the details you need to prepare yourself for move-in and Weeks of Welcome. You will also complete a survey and then receive your JACard.
Resource Fair
Connect with campus departments that will help you navigate JMU. Your guests will meet you on the first floor of Student Success Center.
