Daniel Beers joins the Department of Justice Studies as an Associate Professor specializing in the areas of Global Justice (Track B) and Humanitarian Affairs. He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from Indiana University, and taught for several years at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, before coming to JMU. Daniel’s research and teaching focus on issues of international development, democratic state-building, humanitarianism, and poverty alleviation. He has conducted field research and led off-campus study programs in a variety of international settings, including projects in Ukraine, Romania, Haiti, Turkey, and Jordan. His current research focuses on humanitarian aid and post-disaster reconstruction in Haiti. He is also the director of a small international non-profit, Resources to Resources, which helps support locally-driven projects in disaster-affected communities in Haiti.
