Schedule

The Hart School Career & Internship Fair is a 1-day event. The registration fee covers your lunch and allows each organization to bring up to two representatives. If you’d like to bring more than two company reps, you may do so for an additional $30 per person. Hart School students from both Hospitality Management and Sport & Recreation management will be present. 

  • 8:30 am – 10:00 am: Arrive at Hotel Madison, check in, and set up booth
  • 10:00 am – 1:00 pm: Career & Internship Fair
  • 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm: Employer Lunch with Hart School Faculty 

Campus Interviews & Reserving Interview Rooms 

Interviews are not a formal part of the Career Fair schedule but you are invited to conduct them in JMU’s Career & Academic Planning On-Campus Recruiting space (most employers will conduct interviews the afternoon following the fair or the day before or after the fair). In order to conduct interviews on-campus, please log in to our online recruiting platform Handshake and click Interviews on the left bar, then ‘Request Interview Schedule.’ From there, you may follow Handshake’s Help Center Post an Interview Schedule instructions.

Registration

DATES AND DEADLINES:

  • Registration Opens: November 1, 2020
  • Registration Closes: Monday, January 27, 2020 (or when all spaces fill – whichever occurs first)
  • Cancellation Deadline for 100% refund: Monday, January 6, 2020
  • Cancellation Deadline for 50% refund:  Wednesday, January 22, 2020
  • No refund will be issued for cancellations received after January 22, 2020

If the event is canceled by James Madison University due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be issued. 

Please submit payment within 15 days of completing the registration process* 

*Registration is not confirmed until payment has been received. If payment is not received, your spot will be given to another company on the waitlist.

REGISTRATION FEES

Please note that we are only able to accept credit card as method of payment. Any payments sent via check will be returned. 

  • $300 – For-Profit Organizations
  • $75 – Charitable Non-Profits*/Government Agencies
  • $30 – Additional Attendees** 

* To verify non-profit status, your tax ID will be requested when you register. 

** All registration fees include lunch, one table (5' x 2'), event publicity, and 2 representatives (each additional attendee is $30.00). Each organization is limited to 1 table only. 

*** Organizations that pay for additional attendees will be given a larger table.

After the Fair: Employer Luncheon and Networking Event

Employer Luncheon*

Time: 1:00pm – 2:30pm
Location: Hotel Madison Conference Center (exact room TBD)

About the Luncheon: We invite you to attend the Employer Lunch with Hart School Faculty after the fair! This will allow you to connect with faculty, learn more about their academic departments, and discover new ways in which to engage with JMU students.  

*Feel free to leave your materials and displays in the Ballroom space while you’re eating lunch. We have reserved the Ballroom until 5pm so you have time to enjoy the day’s events before needing to pack-up.

HOTEL MADISON POLICIES REGARDING DISPLAYS AND DELIVERIES:

  • Boxes are not to arrive earlier than 2 business days prior to the Event. 
  • All boxes shipped to the Hotel should be addressed as follows:

  • The following charges will apply to groups that have more than 5 boxes delivered to the Hotel:
    • Boxes up to 15 lbs:  $10 each
    • Boxes 16 to 50 lbs:  $20 each
    • Boxes 51 to 300 lbs:  $75 each
    • Pallets:  $150 each
    • Storage Fee:  $100 per day
  • All load-in and over-sized deliveries should be directed to our loading dock area. 
  • Delivery of items to guest rooms is available for a fee of $3 per room. Complimentary hand out at check-in is also available. 
  • Please call the hotel directly at (540) 214-2225 and speak with Natalie for oversized deliveries.
Travel, Parking & Accommodations

Arrival and Unloading Materials:

  • Arrive at Hotel Madison by 9am; drive into the loop in front of the hotel and UNLOAD MATERIALS. Student volunteers will assist you in unloading materials & will show you to your assigned table. Max. parking time in the loop is 10 minutes.
  • Move your car into the Mason Street Parking Deck by making a right on S. Main St, and an immediate right on Martin Luther King Way (MLK Way). Enter the deck from the MLK Way entrance and take a ticket at the gate. Bring this ticket into the Hotel and we'll validate your ticket at the Employer Check-In table. For individuals staying at the hotel, please follow parking instructions provided by the Hotel Madison. * PARK IN HOTEL MADISON PARKING, NOT IN JMU FACULTY/STAFF PARKING.
  • After parking, walk back through the deck to get to Hotel Madison. Enter the Hotel through the covered walkway (go left) and you'll be on the Hotel's 2nd level. The Career Fair is located on the 1st level. Follow signs to Employer Check-In.
  • If you reserved rooms for on-campus interviews on Thurs., Feb. 7, 2020, those are located in the Career & Academic Planning Office (in the Student Success Center). 

Parking Instructions:

Hotel Madison has on-site parking available to registered employers at no charge in the Mason Street Parking Deck, directly adjacent to the Hotel. See diagram below and print instructions linked HERE .

  • Those who are staying at the hotel should check-in first and use your hotel room key to open the parking gate at the parking deck. 
  • For individuals not staying at the hotel, you will need to request a validation sticker for your parking deck ticket at the Career Fair’s Employer Check-In table. See below diagram and print this document for your reference.

  • Click the words SELECT AN OPTION.

You will be taken to a screen where you can select your room type and enter payment details.

Guests can also call 540-564-0200 and say they are making reservations for the Hart School Career Fair and the dates they will be staying at the hotel.

Inclement Weather Policy

Winter Weather Plan 

Delayed Opening: 9 a.m., 10 a.m. or 11 a.m.

If JMU should have a delayed opening (till 9 a.m., 10 a.m. or 11 a.m.) then we are still planning to have the Career & Internship Fair. If the University opens at 10am or 11am please be patient with us as all of our student attendees will be arriving at roughly the same time as all of you. It may be a bit chaotic in the first 30 minutes or so as we check in both employers and students, so please bear with us! Updated information on the status of JMU closing for winter weather can be found on the JMU homepage: www.jmu.edu.   

Delayed Opening: 12 p.m. (noon) OR JMU Cancellation

If JMU should have a delayed opening at 12 noon (or should JMU decide to close altogether), we will have no choice but to cancel the fair (you will receive an email from me confirming this). If this should happen, please mark your calendars for our inclement weather make-up date, FEBRUARY 21, 2018. You will receive additional information regarding the logistics for attending this make-up event. Updated information on the status of JMU closing for winter weather can be found on the JMU homepage: www.jmu.edu.
