Rationale
  • To provide a safety net for students who are unable to enroll in immediately necessary classes during advance registration
  • To ensure that students have the opportunity to request exceptions based on special circumstances
  • To create a transparent process that fairly distributes available class seats and requires accountability from students for their academic schedules
Procedure
  • Students are given an opportunity to request overrides during a designated time period immediately following advance registration. This allows students to enroll in classes as they are able to and assess their situation after registering for available classes.
  • Student requests are individually reviewed and prioritized in the following manner:
    • Immediate need in light of reasonable target graduation date
    • Seniority (as determined by credit hours)
    • Remaining requirement options
  • The override request form is available via the website and Canvas each semester for approximately one week following advance registration.
  • Once the override request process has been completed, the only way to enroll in Hart School classes is if they become available (open) in MyMadison.
Exceptions
  • This policy does not apply to practicum or internship classes, or to HM/SRM electives (non-required courses).
  • This policy does not apply to any courses outside of the Hart School (HM and SRM). Please contact individual departments for information on their override policies.
