Application Deadline
Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis. All Applications submitted by the below deadlines will be considered for the corresponding semester.
- For Spring admission: December 1
- For Fall admission: July 15
Applications temporarily close for maintenance following the deadline and reopen for consideration for the next academic year on December 21 and August 4 respectively.

This is a part-time only program.
The Educational Leadership concentration program does not qualify for a student visa.
Transcripts
Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions should be uploaded with your electronic application and may be used for departmental admission review purposes. If offered admission, you will be directed and required to submit to the JMU Graduate School an official transcript from any institution from which a degree has been awarded to finalize your admission. Transcripts are considered official if they are sent to JMU directly from the issuing institution.

- Personal statement - regarding your professional goals and how your new degree or additional credential will assist you in meeting these goals
- Two letters of recommendation, one of which should be from a school administrator
- Collegiate Professional License required
- Applicants should have an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or better, hold or have held a valid teaching license or provide documentation of professional employment in the field, and have three years of full-time teaching (or equivalent) experience in a school setting.

Licensure/Certification
This concentration meets the educational requirements for licensure or certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia. While it might meet requirements in other U.S. states or territories, JMU makes no guarantees or promises that it does. However, per Federal Department of Education regulation 34 CFR 668.14(b)(32), if you will be located in a state other than Virginia while participating in the program, but, upon successful completion of this program attest that you plan to pursue licensure and employment in Virginia in a related field, you are eligible to be considered for enrollment.

International applicants, you must have a Virginia Teaching License before you apply to this program.
The Educational Leadership (M.Ed.) concentration does not qualify for a student visa.
