Re-entry to a graduate program and the University following a Leave of Absence

Submit the Graduate Student Intent to Enroll form to The Graduate School if you meet the following criteria:

  1. You were a graduate student when you withdrew from your program and the university.
  2. You enrolled for at least one graded semester at JMU (including withdrawals.)
  3. You left JMU and your graduate program in good standing.
  4. You are within the time limit for completion of the graduate program (6 years for Masters or Ed.S.; 8 years for Doctorate), which includes courses taken when you first began the program.

If you wish to return to a graduate program following Academic Dismissal, you must reapply to that program through standard admission procedures after the one-year waiting period.

Decisions regarding re-entry to a graduate program following a Leave of Absence are at the discretion of the graduate program. Re-entry without reapplication is not guaranteed.

Steps to request re-entry to a graduate program:

  • Complete the Graduate Student Intent to Enroll form
