Please apply to be a faculty associate for the Center for Global Engagement (CGE). CGE is committed to the principle that international experiences and perspectives are essential to any undergraduate and graduate education. To that end, we promote and encourage a critical awareness of world issues; knowledge of and an appreciation for other cultures, languages, and belief systems; a sense of global community; and a commitment to engagement at the international level, that we may educate active and responsible global citizens.
CGE Faculty Associates are JMU instructional faculty who join a collaborative team and contribute to the development of our campus globalization efforts, and support our strategic goals. Beginning in the fall semester of 2026, CGE is requesting applications for the following positions:

This Faculty Associate will lead a strategic assessment of international faculty immigration expenses at JMU. The role involves benchmarking peer institution policies and evaluating the impact of current practices on the recruitment and retention of international faculty. The Associate will develop a comprehensive proposal for a standardized institutional approach to immigration costs and advocate for sustainable policy changes.
Study Abroad Associate: Consolidate the UNST 390 Curriculum for Semester Abroad Locations
Each semester abroad location has a different UNST 390 course and we would like them to be the same across programs with similar learning outcomes. This associate would include assessment of outcomes as well a condensed version of the course that could be added as a 1 credit add-on to all SA programming, including for our exchange/external students.
The Global Learning & Partnership (GLP) Associate: Virtual Exchange & COIL
This Associate will serve as a campus leader in advancing Global Virtual Exchange (GVE) and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) initiatives. The role focuses on expanding accessible global engagement by facilitating cross-border virtual collaborations. Key responsibilities include disseminating best practices, establishing partnerships with international institutions to create new virtual exchange opportunities, and providing hands-on support and information sessions for faculty. Additionally, the Associate may lead efforts to assess the pedagogical impact of these programs on the JMU community.
CGE Associate: Global Engagement Micro-credential
With over 1,400 students studying abroad annually and a vibrant community of international students and partners, JMU has a significant global footprint. We are seeking a Faculty Associate to lead the development of a Global Engagement Micro-credential, a portable, digital certification that translates these experiences into documented competencies like intercultural communication, adaptability, cross-cultural collaboration, and workforce readiness.
