Jonathan Kratz is the Director of International Student & Scholar Services.  He joined JMU in 2011, focusing on international student success.  Jonathan earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Eastern Mennonite University and completed his M.Ed in College Student Personnel Administration at JMU in May 2012. Prior to joining JMU, he worked at Eastern Mennonite University, a small private liberal arts university, for 11 years in a number of roles; Director of International Student Services, Assistant Director for Admissions and Assistant Women’s Soccer coach. He enjoyed teaching a college success course called “transitions” and assisting faculty lead summer study abroad programs to China (’08) and Ireland/Northern Ireland (’06). In addition, Jonathan is an active member of the Association of International Educators (NAFSA), currently a member of Trainer Corp, as a workshop trainer.  Previously, he served as treasurer on the executive committee for NAFSA Region VIII, and as a board member for the Virginia International Educators (VIE) professional organization. 

In his current role, he provides leadership to the International Student & Scholars Services Team.  Works collaboratively with our many campus partners to foster a welcoming and supporting campus community for our international students and scholars.  Advises departments and University on matters of employment-based immigration.  He works closely with international faculty/staff on their immigration status and applying for Permanent Residency, while connecting our international employees as part of a supportive community. 

In his free time, he enjoys watching soccer, tinkering with woodworking, camp fires, and spending time with his wife and three children.
