Jaclyn Nickel began her career in 1988 in her home state of Michigan, teaching high school English and social studies while also coaching varsity basketball. After relocating to Virginia in 1995, she continued her work in education and earned her PreK–12 school administrator licensure. She went on to serve in elementary, middle, and high school administrative roles, gaining broad leadership experience across multiple grade levels.

Jaclyn later joined the Virginia Department of Education as a Training and Technical Assistance Center Education Consultant, where she served for nearly a decade. During that time, she worked as a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) State Systems Coach and Education Coordinator, supporting school divisions in implementing inclusive practices and advancing school quality improvement outcomes.

Currently, Jaclyn serves in the College of Education at James Madison University, where she fosters collaborative local and state partnerships and supports several external initiatives designed to strengthen professional learning for in-service teachers, school administrators, and division leaders. Her professional interests include leadership development, inclusive practices, and building strong educational systems that support student and educator success. Outside of work, Jaclyn loves spending time with her family and friends, exercising, nature walks, attending sporting events, and reading a variety of genres.
