Jaclyn Nickel began her career in 1988 in her home state of Michigan teaching high school English and social studies as well as coaching varsity basketball. After moving to Virginia in 1995 she continued teaching and earned her PreK-12 school administrator licensure. Jaclyn enjoyed serving in elementary, middle, and high school administrator positions before transitioning to the VDOE as a Training and Technical Assistance Center Education Consultant where she served in that role for nearly 10 years. In that time, she worked as a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) State Systems Coach and Education Coordinator assisting school divisions implement inclusive practices and school quality improvement outcomes. Currently, Jaclyn works in the College of Education fostering collaborative and supportive partnerships involving several external initiatives that support in-service teachers and administrators. She is also a wife to Eric and mother to three sons, Ryan, Kyle, and Tyler. Her hobbies and passions include attending sporting events, exercising outdoors, reading, cooking, gathering with friends, and spoiling Milo, the family dog.
