How to Apply to MSME Graduate Programs

The MSME Department has several graduate programs. Please read the instructions carefully to ensure you apply to the correct program and that your application is complete.
I'm applying to a Middle School program...
I'm in the combined undergraduate and graduate program...
Unconditional Admission Requirements:
- Completion of the JMU pre-professional Middle Grades Education minor,
- Completion of the JMU IDLS major with two concentration in Middle School subject areas,
- Full admission to the Teacher Education Program,
- Passing scores on both of your Middle School Praxis Subject Assessments,
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher.

- On the Graduate School's Program Page, select "Apply Now",
- Log in/create a CollegeNet account,
- Complete Personal Information section, select next;
- Select Your Program page:
- select "Education"
- select "Middle Education, Grades 6-8 Concentration"
- Complete the remaining sections of the application,
- Submit the completed application.
I'm interested in the graduate-only pathway...
Unconditional Admission Requirements:
- A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.7 or above,
- Undergraduate degree (may need additional coursework to meet VDOE content area competencies),
- Grade of “C” or higher in a “foundations of education and the teaching profession” course. JMU’s EDUC 200 Foundations of American Education satisfies this requirement,
- Grade of “C” or higher in a “human development and learning (birth through adolescence)” course. JMU’s PSYC 160 Life Span Human Development satisfies this requirement,
- Passing score on the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment,
- Passing score on the Praxis Core Math Assessment or satisfactory SAT/ACT math section score,
- Resume,
- Virginia passing score on the appropriate Praxis Subject Assessment for your endorsement,
- Interview with Program Coordinator (will be scheduled after submission of application).

- Completion of an undergraduate major in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, English, History (with ISS minor), Mathematics, Physics, or Political Science (with ISS minor),
- Full admission to the Teacher Education Program,
- Passing scores on your Praxis Subject Assessment,
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher.
