A Description of the Major

Preparing students to manage people, projects, processes, and performance in a variety of organizational settings.

 We offer an academically rigorous and professionally relevant curriculum that provides Management majors with the academic experience they need to succeed in today’s dynamic business environment. Our cutting edge coursework offers the necessary balance of hard and soft skills needed to manage efficiently and effectively, including courses in leadership, human resource management, innovation and technology, entrepreneurship, project management, and evidence based decision making.

The Management faculty is committed to creating a positive and engaging learning environment in the classroom and through extracurricular activities. A variety of teaching tools and techniques such as case study, facilitated discussion, team projects, simulations, guest speakers, business mentors, and service learning are used to convey concepts and give students the opportunity to practices the skills they are developing. Additionally students are encouraged to participate in management related clubs and activities outside the classroom, and to complete at least one summer internship before graduation.

Listed as one of the most popular majors by JMUs class of 2018, Management prepares students for a variety of careers, including consulting, human resource management, business analysis, retail management, production and operations, supply chain management, sales management, entrepreneurship, and small business management.
