The Summer Venter Accelerator (SVA) program is the Gilliam Center for Entrepreneurship’s summer launch pad for student start-ups at James Madison University. The SVA develops businesses at all stages, from newly-discovered dreams to money-making productions. The student fellows receive funding, work space, mentorship, business classes, learning experiences, and a final pitch opportunity.

Venture Creation Teams

Do you have a new invention, product, or service that you have been devoting your time to bringing to the world?  Looking for more guidance and resources to do it?  You are in luck! 

Venture Creation Teams is an 8 week program running from June to July where accepted teams can focus on accelerating their venture to success.

Details: 

  • Program Dates: Early June to Late July
  • At least one team member must be a JMU student or faculty
  • Access to workspace in the ICE House downtown
  • Experienced mentors

The 2020 Summer Venture Accelerator will run from the first week of June to the last week of July. Applications will be available starting in March. Please contact Patrick McQuown mcquowpt@jmu.edu for questions.

Venture Creation Consultants

Interested in working with startup companies? Do you have skills in research, finance, economics, market analysis, graphic design, web design, or computer programming?   This is the place for you! 

Venture Creation Consultants are college of business students who provide business planning, financial modeling, strategy assistance, competitive assessments, market sizing, business model creation and marketing plan development to JMU student and faculty startups. Accepted students receive a $1,000/semester stipend.

Details: 

  • Time commitment: The bulk of work is done in the remainder of the spring semester.  Two check ins with assigned teams are  required throughout the summer (can be via Skype)
  • Stipends of $1,000
  • Will conduct business research, market analysis, design, and other technical skills
