Madison Inc is a place for JMU students to explore ideas, meet like-minded peers and begin figuring out what comes next. You can take part with an early concept or existing venture and receive flexible support while balancing academic coursework. Learn more through:

Open to current JMU students who want to explore or develop a business or nonprofit venture, so you may take part with an early idea rather than waiting until you have an established business.

Student spotlight of 2025
Anya Strogonova

Anya Strogonova is a Political Science major and Environmental Studies minor who often looks at problems through a lens of sustainability. Anya created her business, Forever Mark, to battle the issue of single-use plastic waste in academia. She is developing a replacement for dry erase markers; one that is biodegradable and made from hemp. Anya participates in Madison Inc and is a member of the GCFE Student Ambassador Club.

Jared Marcus

Jared Marcus is an Accounting major with a minor in Music Industry. His dedication to study music at JMU comes from a deep-rooted love of hip-hop/rap. He writes, performs, engineers and releases music with themes of self-love and personal growth. In addition to participating in Madison Inc, Jared was selected for Dukes Venture Accelerator ’24 and is a current member of the GCFE Student Ambassador Club.

Nicholas Jordan

Nicholas Jordan is majoring in Computer Information Systems with a Cyber Security Management concentration. He developed a love for good food at a young age which inspired him to create The Preparation Kitchen. This business offers step-by-step multimedia meal preparation lessons about the instruments available in your kitchen to the skills needed to plan meals before reaching the grocery store. In addition to participating in Madison Inc, Nicholas was selected for Dukes Venture Accelerator ’24 and is a current member of the GCFE Student Ambassador Club.

Jacob McMurdy

Jacob McMurdy stands on stage in the Forum.

Jacob McMurdy is a Communications major and an Entrepreneurship minor. After developing a knack for landscaping, Jacob created Green Brush LLC, a company that provides a “small-town customer service” feel while bringing clients’ ideal curb appeal visions to life. In addition to participating in Madison Inc, Jacob is a part of the GCFE Student Ambassador Club.
