Learn about the university’s transfer credit policies from the registrar
The following information will guide students on the matter of transfer credit as it pertains only to transferring credit for business courses.
Incoming Transfer Students
An incoming transfer to JMU may be formally accepted to the College of Business and allowed to enroll in COB 300 when the following conditions are met:
- Transfer credit awarded for approved equivalents of all lower-level BBA core courses (COB 191 or MATH 220, COB 202, COB 204, COB 241, COB 242, COB 291, ECON 200, ECON 201) and calculus (MATH 205, MATH 235 or equivalent).
- A grade of B- or better is earned in each approved lower-level BBA core course equivalent except COB 242 and calculus.
- Cumulative GPA at previous college is minimum 3.0.
Current JMU Students
- Schedule an appoinment with your advisor.
- Current/matriculated JMU students who wish to take a business course outside JMU for transfer credit must follow the JMU Office of the Registrar’s policies for transferring credit. Students are strongly advised NOT to register for the course until approval has been granted.
- As a general rule, transfer credit for business courses (for matriculated students) will only be approved when the course is: 1) taken at a 4-year university; 2) taken at an AACSB school; and 3) equivalent to one taught at JMU.
- The only exceptions to the general rule are: ECON 200, ECON 201 and MATH 205. Matriculated JMU students may take these 3 courses for transfer credit at a community college with prior approval.
