Class of 2027
Major: ISAT
Minor: Data Analytics
Ethan liked STEM, but wasn't sure how to apply his interests. "The ISAT program seemed like an option to explore how I could apply my interests to solving problems in growing industries."
"The best part of ISAT is being taught by professors with real industry experience. Learning from people who truly understand their subject matter makes the experience far more rewarding."
During the summer of 2025, he studied in Costa Rica. "The group was small, made up of another ISAT student and I, along with three engineering majors. We built a beach wheelchair for the Punta Leona Resort to improve beach accessibility. The experience gave me hands-on learning and expanded my skill set in a way that a traditional classroom can't."
He is involved in the ISAT Honor Society and Delta Sigma Phi. Outside of class, he enjoys playing golf.
Why did you become an ambassador?
I wanted to become more involved with the ISAT program and help recruit future students by sharing my experiences.
Most influential professor, mentor, or advisor
Paul Henriksen has played a huge role in my ISAT experience. Even before I arrived at JMU, he took the time to talk with me about my class schedule and helped me get a better understanding of the ISAT program.
Favorite class or project
My favorite class so far has been Energy Instrumentation and Measurement. I've had the chance to do a lot of hands-on learning with various energy systems tools, which have been super helpful in understanding the more complicated physics principles we've been learning about in the energy concentration.
Favorite spot on campus

Advice for prospective students
Take advantage of opportunities. It's easy just to get by, but it's so worth it to go the extra step and make the most of every opportunity.
