We welcome all social work majors to join the social work faculty and staff in creating a vibrant learning space where all can thrive, find a sense of belonging, and bring their authentic selves to the learning experience. As in our accreditation documents, we strive to incorporate marginalized histories, perspectives, and voices that create a more equitable understanding of those we seek to serve, advocate with/for, and to foster greater social justice, equitable treatment, and inclusive discourse with and about. The context of learning requires that we strive for brave spaces, places where we fearlessly engage difficult topics, while giving everyone space to make mistakes, to learn from each other, and to grow into social work professionals that adhere to the NASW Code of Ethics.

We ask our students to commit with the faculty to:

  • create brave spaces in our classrooms, offices, virtual, and all learning spaces, for holding ourselves accountable to each other as we engage in active listening and speaking out.
  • disrupting harmful speech, actions, and addressing systemic barriers to the full participation of every individual in forming collaborative learning experiences.
  • allowing others with differing perspectives to lead without dominating out of habit, recognizing that others have as much to give.
