The Sports Nutrition Apprenticeship provides MS in Applied Nutrition graduate students with the opportunity to work directly with the JMU Sports Nutrition Department as an extension of the team of sports dietitians. This two-year experience, completed in conjunction with the MS in Applied Nutrition program, is designed to prepare future sports dietitians for entry-level positions in collegiate and professional sports nutrition.
Throughout the apprenticeship, students will gain hands-on experience in sports nutrition counseling, education, and food service operations. Apprentices will initially observe and participate in department activities before progressively taking on greater responsibility and leadership within these areas.
Each apprentice will be assigned to a specific sport, allowing them to build rapport with student-athletes, coaches, and support staff while providing continuity throughout their two-year experience.
Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience in sports and a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career as a sports dietitian following graduation.
If interested in applying, please contact Faith Buck, RDN, CSSD, Director of Sports Nutrition, at buckfl@jmu.edu for more information.
