Evan Khanna is sold on JMU.
And the first-year Computer Science major thinks Madison is a great fit for anyone with an eye on a bright future.
A self-described extrovert, Khanna’s list of clubs and organizations reads like a Who’s Who of JMU—Artificial Intelligence Club, College of Integrated Science and Engineering student government, South Asian Student Association and Society of Entrepreneurs. “I love talking to people, and I feel like JMU is a happy, welcoming place that makes it easy to find things that can help you grow and improve,” he says, adding, “It’s not so large that you get lost in the crowd, and it’s not so small that there aren’t a lot of choices, either.”
A computer coder since age 7 and an entrepreneur who started his company Dareshift in 2017, Khanna says the JMU vibe is exactly what he hoped his college experience would be. “Everyone wants to help each other and everyone has been so welcoming to me from day one—and still is,” he says.
Khanna says JMU is absolutely helping fuel his passion for all things AI. “I love learning that is applied and hands-on, and JMU is that even in the General Education classes I have.” For Khanna, JMU is a great path to AI engineering and whatever else comes next. “I really love it here,” he says. “I made a great choice.”
