Dukes 'OneDrive for Business'

James Madison University is adding OneDrive for Business as part of Office 365 during the week of August 4​th, 2014. This service is managed by JMU Information Technology and is available to you as an active student​ as ​part of your Dukes account. (http://dukes.jmu.edu) JMU Dukes OneDrive for Business provides file storage, collaboration, and communication with other JMU students and faculty. You can fill your OneDrive with documents, photos, and share them with family and friends. And you can access them anytime, anywhere and from any device!

The OneDrive for Business service ​is not the same as the OneDrive service offered by Microsoft to individuals. The OneDrive for Business is managed by JMU Information Technology. ​Synchronizing Files

Synchronization (or sync) allows you to designate one or more OneDrive for Business folders to be replicated on your local computer or mobile device. Once you establish sync, you can change a file in OneDrive for Business and the local copy of the file is updated automatically. Likewise, when you change a local file, it is updated in OneDrive for Business.

Document Connection program (distributed with Office for the Macintosh) provides a folder view in which you can open files and also drag and drop files to add them to OneDrive for Business.

SharePoint Subsite URLs

From OneDrive for Business, you can create SharePoint subsites. The URL for a subsite is:

https://dukesjmuedu-my.sharepoint.com/personal/<your_jmu_e-ID>_dukes_jmu_edu/<your_subsite_name>

Where:

<your_jmu_e-ID​>=Your own JMU e-ID

<your_subsite_name>​ = The name you gave the subsite when you created it

To create a subsite

In the upper-right corner of the screen, click the gear icon , and then click Site contents.
At the bottom of the screen, click new subsite.
Follow the prompts to complete the subsite.
Note: When creating a subsite, be sure to select Use unique permissions because you do not want to use the same permissions as your root site.​
