CampusNet Connection Guide
Step 1: Open the Network control panel.
Click on the Start button and select Settings, then select Control Panel.
A window similar to the one below will be displayed.

Step 2: Verify that a network adapter and TCP/IP are installed.
Double-click on the control panel labeled "Network".
A windows similar to the one below will be displayed.
Verify that your computer has a network adapter and TCP/IP protocol components installed.
If you don't see a valid Ethernet adapter, contact the Helpdesk at 568-3555 for assistance.
If TCP/IP is installed, skip to Step 4.

As you can see from this window, the computer has a 3com network adapter installed with the TCP/IP protocol.
(Please note: You may see another adapter labeled "Dialup Adapter" with another TCP/IP protocol installed. This is completely normal. The Dialup Adapter is only used by the system modem and can't be used in lieu of an Ethernet adaptor to connect to your network connection in your room.) |

Step 3: Add the Microsoft TCP/IP protocol.
Click the Add button to display the Network Component Type window shown below.

Click on the word Protocol and click the Add button to display the Network Protocol window shown below.

Click on Microsoft in the Manufacturers box as shown above.
Click on TCP/IP in the Network Protocols box as shown above.
Click the OK button to accept your selection.
Please note: You may be prompted for your Windows 98 CD to complete the installation.
Please restart your computer when you are prompted. Once your computer has rebooted, open the network control panel as before and proceed to Step 4.
Step 4: Change the properties of the TCP/IP protocol to match the following settings.
Double-click on the TCP/IP protocol for your Ethernet adapter to display the TCP/IP properties window as shown below.

Click the Gateway tab to display the next screen shown below.
Click the DNS Configuration tab to display the next screen shown below.
Click the OK button to continue and proceed to the next step.
If you made any changes, you will be prompted to restart your system.
Step 5: Keep you system safe from viruses and malicious attacks.
Now that your computer is configured and plugged into the network connection, you will need to register your computer before your Internet applications will work. To register, open Internet Explorer and you will automatically be sent to the registration web page. Once your computer has been registered, we require that you keep your system software updated and use Symantec Anti-virus to protect your computer.
