Bryan Brentus Green (f.k.a. Carter) received his Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science at Johns Hopkins University, where he specialized in American political development, black, racial, and urban politics. He completed his undergraduate studies at Temple University, receiving his B.A. in Political Science and African American Studies, and completed an M.A. in Politics at The New School for Social Research. His teaching and research interests include black, racial, and urban politics; black political thought; Afrofuturism; political economy; and the politics of crime, policing, and punishment.
Dr. Green’s ongoing research examines the political development of criminal legal institutions, their democratic consequences, and their effects on public safety outcomes. He is particularly interested in the relationship between the creation of or changes to criminal legal institutions, shifts in urban demographics and economies, and the corresponding redistribution of formal political power in the mid-to-late 20th Century. His works-in-progress examine the politics of policing and police accountability.
