Andreas Broscheid is a native of Cologne, Germany. He received his Ph.D. in 2000 from the State University of New York at Stony Brook with a dissertation on the interaction between American courts and Congress. From 2000 to 2003, he held a post-doc position at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne, where his work focused on interest representation in the European Union. In 2003, Andreas Broscheid returned to the United States to teach at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, one of the most diverse universities of the country. Since Fall 2006, he has been teaching at JMU. Dr. Broscheid's teaching focuses on American Politics, particularly the judicial process and behavior, and quantitative methods.

Dr. Broscheid has conducted scholarship on European Union interest groups, U.S. Courts of Appeals, and political science education. He has published in the journals Public Choice, European Union Politics, Politische Vierteljahresschrift, Law & Society Review, and Journal of Political Science Education. He has contributed chapters to Business and Government: Methods and Practice, edited by David Coen and Wyn Grant, as well as to several German-language volumes on political science methods.

Since summer 2016, Dr. Broscheid is the Assistant Director for Career Planning at the Center for Faculty Innovation and JMU.
