The organization was found responsible for the following behaviors that occurred during the Spring 2025 semester: requiring new members to complete errands or tasks for other members (e.g., picking up food, driving members around, doing dishes, or moving a member's car around campus), and requiring an underage new member to be in possession of alcohol.
Outcome(s):
Organizational Probation (through the end of the Spring 2026 semester): Outcomes may include suspension or expulsion from JMU and/or removal from all university housing if found responsible, in a future case, for another violation of Hazing policy.
Organizational & Leadership Development (through the end of the Spring 2026 semester): Once-a-month organizational development meetings between the President and Fraternity & Sorority Life. During these meetings, the President will receive additional support for stewarding culture change, hosting safe bonding/social activities, organizational risk management and bystander intervention strategies, maintenance of new member activities free of hazing, and additional support for completing headquarters-assigned outcomes.
Reminder of Assigned Outcome from Tau Kappa Epsilon Headquarters: The chapter will develop a revised, compliant, and educationally sound new member program in alignment with the fraternity’s and JMU’s policies (headquarters will communicate additional expectations as necessary) (complete by September 14, 2025).
Reminder of Assigned Outcome from Tau Kappa Epsilon Headquarters: The chapter will host a chapter-wide hazing prevention workshop facilitated by Tau Kappa Epsilon staff (headquarters will communicate additional expectations as necessary) (complete by November 1, 2025, with 80%-chapter attendance).
Reminder of Assigned Outcome from Tau Kappa Epsilon Headquarters: The chapter must submit a leadership transition plan outlining how new member education and hazing prevention outcomes will be implemented in Spring 2026 with the newly elected officers (headquarters will communicate additional expectations as necessary) (complete by December 15, 2025).
