Incident(s) Description:
The organization was found responsible for requiring pledges/new members to participate in "Mountain Day" on 12-7-2025, which involved pledges/new members traveling to a nearby mountain where hiking, being shirtless in cold weather, and putting red paint on your body were required. "Mountain Day" was an informal initiation process which occurred several weeks after the chapter was required by their national headquarters to conclude the new member process.

Outcome(s):
Organizational Probation (through the end of the Spring 2027 semester): Outcomes may include suspension or expulsion from JMU and/or removal from all university housing if found responsible, in a future case, for another violation of Endangerment or Hazing policy.

Leadership Coaching (through the end of the Spring 2027 semester): The President must schedule and attend organizational development meetings with an individual approved by the Office of Student Accountability & Restorative Practices. During these meetings, the President (and any other executive leaders who attend) will receive additional support on the following topics: organizational culture change, hosting safe bonding/social activities, organizational risk management and bystander intervention strategies, maintenance of new member activities free of alcohol and hazing, and additional support for completing headquarters-assigned outcomes.

Reminder of Assigned Outcome from Pi Kappa Alpha Headquarters (through March 1, 2027): Probationary Period - During this time, the chapter is expected to fully comply with the Fraternity’s Standards and the university’s policies. If there is any failure to uphold the aforementioned policies, the chapter can expect a response which may include suspension of its potential charter.

Reminder of Assigned Outcome from Pi Kappa Alpha Headquarters (ongoing): Timely Reporting & Initiation - The chapter shall report and initiate any/all outstanding New Members listed on the chapter roster within 5 business days from the acknowledgement of this letter. Failure to do so could result in further action upon the chapter's charter. Equally, New Members shall be reported no later than 3 days after the bid extension process.

Reminder of Assigned Outcome from Pi Kappa Alpha Headquarters (by August 1, 2026): Chapter Officer Elections & Criteria - The chapter shall hold a re-election/appointment of select officers who will fulfill the roles at the start of the Fall 2026 term. This election/appointment shall be held by August 1, 2026. Following the election, the elected chapter president shall report the new officers to the university and the International Fraternity.

Reminder of Assigned Outcome from Pi Kappa Alpha Headquarters (By August 24, 2026 (New Member Education Program); By September 1, 2026 (Chapter Judicial Board); By September 1, 2026 (Membership Contract): Revision of Programs: The chapter shall revise the following programs to ensure the entire program is consistent with the Fraternity’s Standards and the university’s policies. These programs shall be completed and submitted to the International Fraternity: New Member Education Program; Chapter Judicial Board; Membership Contract.

Reminder of Assigned Outcome from Pi Kappa Alpha Headquarters (by September 30, 2026): Chapter Recommitment Process - The purpose of a recommitment process is to reset the baseline regarding membership of Pi Kappa Alpha. This would include a recommitment to Pi Kappa Alpha Standards, public value statements (Fraternity’s Mission, Vision, and Creed), Constitution and Chapter Codes, respective chapter bylaws, as well as any IFC (interfraternity council) and/or the various Greek council policies, university policies, and local, state, and federal laws by signing of a membership contract.

Reminder of Assigned Outcome from Pi Kappa Alpha Headquarters (100% of the chapter’s membership by October 1, 2026): Culture of Drinking Course - Upon completion, the chapter leadership will debrief the course as a group within two weeks of the deadline.

Reminder of Assigned Outcome from Pi Kappa Alpha Headquarters (ongoing): PIKE Leadership Participation - The chapter shall commit to sending at least two chapter leaders to the Fraternity Convention in July 2026; the chapter president, treasurer, and recruitment chairman to the Chapter Executives Conference in January 2027; at least five men, including a minimum of three chapter officers, to PIKE University Leadership Summit during the 2026-2027 academic year.

Reminder of Assigned Outcome from Pi Kappa Alpha Headquarters (by August 31, 2026): Alumni Advisory Board Support - The chapter shall work with the Fraternity staff to recruit members for a local alumni advisory board, consisting of no fewer than six volunteer members. This board shall actively advise the chapter and aid it in achieving operational efficiency while fulfilling these conditions. After the board is established, the chapter shall host a goal-setting retreat with the alumni advisory board.

Incident(s) Description:
In the course of investigating a report of hazing, it was determined that at an event during November 2022 the following behaviors occurred: alcohol provided to underage members; alcohol consumed by underage members; alcohol not properly monitored and distributed at an organization event; forced designated driving assignments; assigned sober monitoring; forced event setup and cleaning.

It was also determined that during December 2022 and Spring 2023 the following behaviors occurred: alcohol provided to underage members; alcohol consumed by underage members; alcohol not properly monitored and distributed at an organization event; forced designated driving assignments; assigned sober monitoring; forced event setup and cleaning.
