Transfer Students

Congratulations on accepting your admissions offer to join the JMU community! We know that must have been a big decision for you and your family, as transitioning from one college to another is a big deal. We realize that there are many different factors that have led to your decision to transfer. No matter the reason, we are ready to meet your needs as you prepare for this transition. This book is the beginning of the three-phase process of successfully transitioning to JMU. Read on to learn about each of the phases.

The Transfer One Book website

The Transfer One Book is your one-stop-shop that contains all the important steps, details and information you need to begin your transition to JMU. The Transfer One Book, and the companion web site, will guide you through several steps you need to complete in preparation for Summer Springboard. It is important that you – not your parents or siblings – complete all the steps by the stated deadlines. Why wait until the deadlines? Get ahead by completing the steps early!

Summer Springboard

Summer Springboard is the second phase of your transition. You will come to campus for one day in June to meet other members of your incoming class, get advice from your Transfer Orientation Peer Adviser (TOPA), learn about the expectations of being a member of the campus community, and register for your fall courses. Summer Springboard is a full day, and all the steps you will be guided to complete throughout The Transfer One Book will ensure that you are prepared for the day.

1787 August Orientation (Summer and Fall Admits)

Finally, we’ll round out your transition with Transfer 1787 August Orientation, our fall welcome program. This is the official beginning of your JMU experience! Get settled into your new living space, whether that be on- or off-campus, and come join us for a couple of days of programming that will provide you the nuts & bolts to get going. You’ll reconnect with your TOPA and attend programs related to studying abroad, finding a job on campus or in the surrounding community, managing your finances, an ice cream social, and a convocation program and pinning ceremony. If you were unable to attend Summer Springboard, this is a great opportunity to get connected and learn some of the information you missed in June. Sure, there will be fun times and many memories made, but the important thing about this week is that we help you get prepared for your new life at JMU.

We hope you’re ready for all that we have in store for you, because the university is excited about you, as the newest member of James Madison University!
