Congratulations on accepting your admissions offer to join the JMU community! We know that must have been a big decision for you and your family, as transitioning from one college to another is a big deal. We realize that there are many different factors that have led to your decision to transfer. No matter the reason, we are ready to meet your needs as you prepare for this transition. This book is the beginning of the three-phase process of successfully transitioning to JMU. Read on to learn about each of the phases.

The Transfer One Book
The Transfer One Book is your one-stop-shop that contains all the important steps, details and information you need to begin your transition to JMU. The Transfer One Book, and the companion web site, will guide you through several steps you need to complete in preparation for Summer Springboard. It is important that you – not your parents or siblings – complete all the steps by the stated deadlines. Why wait until the deadlines? Get ahead by completing the steps early!

Summer Springboard
We are excited to welcome you to JMU and are eager to help you transition to your life as a Duke. We hope you and your family are remaining safe and healthy and please know that JMU is closely monitoring the ongoing guidance and recommendations related to COVID-19. We want you to know that the Governor of Virginia’s stay-at-home order through June 10 has led us to offer a virtual Summer Springboard orientation. We know you were looking forward to coming to Harrisonburg to begin your Madison experience but your safety and well-being will always be our top priority. We look forward to engaging with you virtually soon and will share more specific details in May.

1787 Weeks of Welcome (Summer and Fall Admits)
Finally, we’ll round out your transition with Transfer 1787 Weeks of Welcome, our fall welcome program. This is the official beginning of your JMU experience! Get settled into your new living space, whether that be on or off campus, and join us for programming that will provide you the nuts & bolts to get going. You’ll reconnect with your TOPA and attend programs related to studying abroad, finding a job on campus or in the surrounding community, managing your finances, an ice cream social and a convocation program and pinning ceremony. This is a great opportunity to get connected and learnall about how to make the most out of your time at JMU. Sure, there will be fun times and many memories made, but the important thing about this week is that we help you get prepared for your new life at JMU.

We hope you’re ready for all that we have in store for you, because the university is excited about you, as the newest member of James Madison University!
