Yi-Ping Chen
Instructor, Conducting
Dr. Yi-Ping Chen currently teaches conducting at James Madison University and serves as executive director of Spring String Thing. Previously she held position as the Orchestra Director of the University Orchestra at Minnesota State University-Moorhead and North Dakota State University. Devoted to enriching the community with arts, she served as conductor of Fargo-Moorhead Ballet Company’s Wonderland Orchestra. She also collaborated with numerous arts organizations while conducting the Northern Valley Youth Orchestras in Grand Forks.
As an educator and performer, she held positions as oboe instructor at Minnesota State University Moorhead, University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University.
Dr. Chen holds a DMA degree in conducting from University of Minnesota; a Masters Degree in Orchestral Conducting from Northwestern University; a Bachelor Degree in Oboe from University of Toronto.
Yi-Ping resides in Staunton with her husband Foster and daughter Amelia.
