Dr. Graciela Perez is an Assistant Professor of Criminology in the Justice Studies Department teaching courses in Track A: Criminal Justice and Criminology. Dr. Perez received her Master and Ph.D. from the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware before joining faculty at James Madison University as part of the College of Arts and Letters’ social justice-oriented cohort. To JMU, Dr. Perez brings her research expertise that broadly focuses on the social control and punishment of marginalized communities, with a special interest in the intertwining forces of immigration and criminalization that impacts Latinx. Her most recent research examines the victimization of Latinx in the United States, including Latinx experiences with police mistreatment. As a critical criminologist and justice advocate, she is an active participant in her community and extends her research to the communities it impacts.
