General Training for All Business Units Except Advancement

James Madison University uses the Employees, Students, Orientation, and Undergraduate Admissions Business Units to communicate with both external and internal audiences of JMU, including faculty/staff, prospective students, current students, parents, etc.

Access to the preceding business units can be requested by speaking with your supervisor and your Email Governance Committee representative. Once completed, submit the Marketing Cloud User Access Request Form, which will outline the next steps for training and your role/permissions within Marketing Cloud. Understand that all requests will be presented to the Governance Committee for discussion and alignment. Do not submit any requests via email. The Marketing Cloud User Access Request Form is the only acceptable method for requesting access.

Training and Support

General training for Marketing Cloud is handled by Strategic Communications. The training is divided into two parts: Content Creator and Email Sender. Depending on your assigned role and permissions, you may or may not have to complete both parts.

Training is scheduled before new users are granted access to the software. The reasoning behind this progression of events is that Marketing Cloud does not have a training mode. Therefore, to prevent issues concerning email sends, folder organization, or email creation, we have ensured training precedes the official granting of access.

Strategic Communications will contact new users via email to schedule a training session. An outline and user guide are provided to help employees comprehend the material and ask pressing questions. If you have not been contacted and need to schedule your training, contact Strategic Communications.
