Teacher Leadership is a nationally-recognized niche to equip school-related professionals to assume formal and informal leadership roles within the classroom, school, community and profession. Teacher leadership in the Commonwealth is aligned with Virginia's Standards of Quality, preparing practicing educators for roles as mentors, instructional coaches, professional learning community leaders, and grade level or department chairs.

Professional Knowledge Application

After completing our Teacher Leadership concentration programs, you will be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and dispositions to:

  1. Understand and apply real-world application of instructional leadership, policy leadership, advocacy leadership, and association leadership.
  2. Support and mentor peers in the area of instructional coaching and professional learning communities.
  3. Work closely with school and division leaders to solve school improvement issues.
  4. Understand and apply curriculum development, implementation, and revision.
  5. Enhance skills needed to be a grade-level team leader or department chair, curriculum resource teacher, instructional coach, or other teacher leader role.
