The CHBS Interprofessional and Interdisciplinary Education (IPE and IDE) Curricular Framework provides a shared model for integrating and assessing the competencies needed for effective collaborative practice across academic programs. The framework establishes a common approach to preparing students to work across professions and disciplines while allowing flexibility for program-specific and accreditation requirements.
A Competency-Based Developmental Framework
The CHBS IPE and IDE curriculum is a longitudinal, competency-based framework designed to cultivate a collaborative culture and prepare students to address complex challenges in professional practice. Through intentional learning experiences, students develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values necessary for effective interprofessional and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The CHBS IPE and IDE Curricular Framework supports developmental progression from awareness and understanding to application and integration of collaborative competencies. Learning experiences are typically embedded within discipline-specific curricula and occur across three interconnected levels: Foundational, Engaged, and Immersive.
Foundational
Introduction to IPEC competencies and IDE domains that support effective interprofessional and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Engaged
Application and practice of collaborative competencies through interactions with students from other professions and disciplines, simulations, case-based learning, and structured team experiences.
Immersive
Advanced application and sustained engagement in authentic interprofessional or interdisciplinary settings, including clinical practice, community engagement, research, leadership, or scholarship.

Expected Outcome
Through progressive learning experiences across these three Levels, students develop the competencies needed to collaborate effectively across professions and disciplines, adapt to evolving workforce demands, and contribute to improved outcomes for individuals, organizations, and communities.
This framework reflects CHBS's commitment to preparing graduates who can work collaboratively to address complex health, educational, and societal challenges.
