The Bachelor of Science degree in Integrated Science and Technology is a four-year program (about 80 credit hours) that offers a broad technical foundation and practical problem-solving skills needed to tackle the challenges that society faces.  ISAT lets students design a course of study that fits their own particular interests, giving them far more flexibility than traditionally organized programs typically offer.  ISAT majors enjoy a range of options in choosing what to study – including the option to create their own area of concentration tailored to their interests – and can change their focus without changing majors.  A complete listing of all core and elective courses is available in the ISAT program section of the JMU Undergraduate Catalog.

During years one and two, students enroll in General Education and Foundation courses, which consist of Analytical Methods, Issues, and Social Context classes. Those classes are prerequisites for the junior year courses in the program.

During the third year, students choose any two of the following technical sectors: Applied Biotechnology, Energy, Production Systems, Environment, Information and Knowledge Management. They also complete a sector in Holistic Problem Solving.

During year four, students concentrate in one or both of their two technical sectors (or a tailored concentration) and complete a senior capstone project.
