James Madison University (JMU), located in the Shenandoah Valley in Harrisonburg, Virginia, is a predominantly undergraduate institution with approximately 17,000 student. Members of the Environmental Management Club come from various academic programs at JMU, including the Environmental Management minor and the innovative Integrated Science and Technology (ISAT) major. This undergraduate program, established at JMU by the Commonwealth of Virginia during the 1990 session of the General Assembly, provides students with a solid comprehension of several scientific and technological disciplines, while emphasizing essential business concepts. Such concepts include the importance of collaborative and leadership methods, the application of technological advancement in problem-solving techniques, and the social considerations--economic, political, environmental, and ethical--that encompass technical business decisions.
The majority of Club members from the ISAT major are pursuing academic concentrations in the Environment Sector. The following informative article addresses ISAT's approach toward environmental education at the college level. This article was prepared by this chapter's former faculty advisor (Dr. James J.
