Exploring the area pays huge dividends.
JMU has the coolest opportunity for the newest Dukes to soak in the area and jump-start their Madison Experience.
Thanks to Madison Outdoor Adventure Trip programs, first-year students can experience the Shenandoah Valley on one of four different four-day, three-night excursions. Under the watchful eyes of welcoming and knowledgeable student trip leaders, first-years hike, canoe, rock climb and tent camp throughout this beautiful area. There’s even a ropes course right on campus.
No experience is necessary. It is a great way to make connections with other students before classes start. There are multiple MOAT trips throughout the summer, as well as an August trip that takes place just before classes start and allows you to move into your residence hall early.
MOAT is a wonderful way to get going on the right foot.
