
If your dream is to attend JMU, we want to help you realize that goal. Our transfer admissions process allows you to build confidence as a college student and strengthen your academic foundation at another institution before joining JMU after as little as one year.
Transfer Admissions Requirements
- Complete 24 transferable credit hours at another institution after graduating high school (Dual Enrollment courses do not count)
- Complete a transferable course in each core area: English, math, lab science, and social science
- Earn mostly A's and B's in core academic classes

There are multiple pathways to JMU from Virginia's community colleges and Richard Bland College, including through guaranteed admission after completing a transfer associate degree.
JMU is a full partner with Transfer Virginia which provides academic maps showing a 2+2 pathway into many popular majors.
Contact the appropriate Transfer Advising Coordinator for your community college to receive assistance selecting classes to ensure no credits are lost during your transfer process.
The BRCC to JMU Co-Admission Program, BR2JMU, is designed to admit students to both BRCC and JMU directly out of high school, allowing them to complete their associate degree at BRCC before transitioning seamlessly to JMU.

- Be admitted now to both BRCC and JMU: After completing your associate degree and meeting other program requirements, you’ll be ready to become a JMU Duke—no transfer application required.
- Affordable and close to home: Save money by completing your first two years at community college tuition rates.

- JMU Next advising. Work closely with a JMU academic advisor at BRCC, so you can be confident that you are on track and taking the right classes.

- Make friends who will transfer to JMU with you. The students you meet in the BR2JMU program will transfer with you, so you’ll already know people when you start at JMU.
- Start your life as a JMU Duke now! You will have opportunities to eat in the dining halls and attend athletics and other events at JMU while you’re still at BRCC.

JMU has partnered with Tidewater Community College to offer a program called Here to JMU. This program provides opportunities for TCC students to seamlessly transition to JMU for their bachelor's degree after completing coursework at TCC.
Benefits of the Here to JMU program through TCC include:
- JMU Next advising: Work closely with a JMU Academic Advisor, so you can be confident that you are on track and taking the right classes.
- Utilize the Guaranteed Admission Agreement (GAA): Transfer in with guaranteed admission after earning your associate degree OR work with your JMU Next advisor to best position yourself to transfer after just one year.
- Affordable and close to home: Save money by completing your coursework at community college tuition rates.
- Smaller class sizes: Receive personalized attention from your professors at TCC while building your college skills and confidence.
- Access to JMU in-person appointments: Receive advance notice and early registration for JMU admissions and advising appointments on TCC's campuses.
- Re-apply to JMU for free: Students who complete an associate degree and are applying through the GAA will receive an application fee waiver.
