Paul serves as Associate Vice Provost for Student Success at James Madison University, where his work is grounded in student success analytics and institution‑wide improvement of learning and persistence. In this role, he focuses on using evidence to identify barriers to student success, guide strategy, and support decision‑making that improves outcomes for diverse student populations. His work emphasizes translating data into action, connecting research, policy, and practice to strengthen the student experience across the institution.  

In addition to his administrative leadership, Paul is an educator whose teaching is closely aligned with his student success work. His approach centers on helping students and colleagues understand how learning environments, institutional structures, and instructional practices shape student outcomes. Through teaching and mentorship, he emphasizes clarity of expectations, evidence‑informed practice, and continuous improvement, reinforcing the connection between effective teaching and student persistence and achievement.
