The Incoming Student Skill & Attitudes Questionnaire (ISSAQ) is a survey that provides a snapshot of student's non-cognitive or "power" skills like quality focus, persistance, or sense of belonging. At JMU, the ISSAQ has been an important tool for student success since 2022.
Students complete the ISSAQ and receive a student report with student specific scores and links to resources that align with each of the 12 non-cognitive factors.
Advisors receive rosters with the scores of their advisees at the beginning of the semester, or as appropriate, depending on when the ISSAQ is administered and completed.
Institutionally, we are working with colleagues across the institution and at vary levels to use the ISSAQ to better support students and transform the student success landscape at JMU.
