Student Telephone Services

Telephone services are provided by JMU Telecommunications.

Due to the widespread use of wireless devices, starting in summer 2010 and continuing until 2013, telephones will be gradually removed from individual residence hall rooms and courtesy phones will be installed in hallways.

Students may be provided with either a residence hall room phone with an individual telephone number and voice mail capability OR residence hall courtesy phones in hallways.

Students may place on-campus, local area and toll free calls from residence hall room phones and hallway courtesy phones at no charge.

Individual telephones will be removed from the following residence halls for the 2011-2012 academic year: Bell, Chandler, Chappelear, Chesapeake, Converse, Eagle, Hillside, Huffman, Logan, McGraw-Long, Potomac, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Shorts, and White. Residence hall courtesy phones will be placed in hallways.

Should an on-campus student living in one of the residence halls listed above have a need for an individual room phone, please submit a Student Telephone Installation Form. Installation and monthly fees will be at no charge to the resident until the telephone removal transition is complete.

Student PIN Information

A Personal Identification Number (PIN) is required for long distance calling. Students may place long distance calls with a Telecom PIN using either residence hall room phones or hallway courtesy phones.

The long distance rate is 8¢ per minute anytime, anywhere in the USA. International, directory assistance and operator assisted calls are billed at higher rates.

JMU University Business Office will provide monthly billing. Telecom charges will appear on the student’s consolidated monthly bill and will be billed electronically to your JMU e-mail address via QuickBILL.
