Student Telephone Services
Telephone services are provided by JMU Telecommunications. Each residence hall room is equipped with one telephone with an individual telephone number and voice mail capability. Students may place on-campus, local area and toll free calls from residence hall rooms at no charge.
What is a Telecom PIN?
A Telecom PIN (Personal Identification Number) is required for long distance calling. ALL resident hall students will be issued a Telecom PIN at no charge.
How will I receive my Telecom PIN?
A Telecom PIN will be distributed to the student with their housing assignment notification at http://www.jmu.edu/onebook (freshmen) or http://web.jmu.edu/reslife.
What if I didn't receive a Telecom PIN?
If you did not receive a Telecom PIN, you may request a one at http://www.jmu.edu/telecom/forms. A PIN with instructions will be e-mailed to your JMU e-mail account.You may also request a PIN by visiting the JMU Telecommunications office at 1021 S. Main Street (JMAC1).
What if my PIN is not working or I need help dialing?
Call JMU Telecom at 568-6108, and we will be happy to assist you.
What is the cost?
A Telecom PIN is distributed at no charge to all on-campus residents. Students may place on-campus, local and toll free calls at no charge. On-campus, local and toll free numbers do not require a Telecom PIN.
Long distance, international and directory assistance calls require a Telecom PIN. Billing will occur when the service is used for long distance, international or directory assistance calls. Rates are as follows: Long distance is billed at 8¢ per minute, anytime, anywhere in the continental USA. International rates vary. For international rate information, call 568-6108. Local and national directory assistance calls are billed at 95¢ per call.
How will I be billed?
JMU University Business Office will provide monthly billing. Telecom charges will appear on the resident's consolidated monthly bill and will be billed electronically to the resident's JMU e-mail address via QuickPAY. See payment information at http://www.jmu.edu/ubo, or call 568-6505. JMU Telecom will provide monthly call detail upon request by submitting a Call Detail Request Form at http://www.jmu.edu/telecom/forms.
