Fred Oesch from Øesch Environmental Design will be explaining a practical overview of alternative state-of-the-art materials, energy systems, and methods by which you can achieve cost-effective affordable green building. Topics include Tiny Houses, shipping container conversions, resilient earth sheltered homes, and healthful passive heating and cooling systems. by following the ideas and examples presented, you will be better informed, inspired, and empowered to complete your own sustainable Design and Building projects.

Realizing the Potential of Distributed Solar in Virginia

Kate Addleson, the Director of the Sierra Club Virginia Chapter Utility scale solar is off and running in Virginia, but customer sited, or distributed solar is lagging due to opposition from utilities and a lack of serious commitment by Virginia policymakers. A shift towards distributed solar would be a boon for stakeholders. Local governments could put underused land to work, saving money for taxpayers; businesses can more easily make smart investments that make them more competitive; and residents could be free to supply their own energy. This presentation will discuss in detail the benefits of distributed solar for Virginia, the barriers to its expansion, and what can and is already being done to overcome these obstacles.
