Who we are & what we do:
The Office of Sponsored Programs assists the JMU community with applying for and receiving external funding. We ensure submitted applications comply with sponsor, state, and JMU policies regulations; we also assist PIs with JMU’s internal approval process for grants.
The Office of Sponsored Programs also functions as representatives of the university; we negotiate and sign awards and other similar contracts on its behalf. After an award, we continue to assist PIs by submitting prior authorizations/prior approvals, including no cost extensions, budget revisions, and more. We also facilitate non-financial reporting.
We work closely with the Office of Research Development, Sponsored Programs Financial Administration, and Corporate and Foundation Relations.
What is a sponsored program?
A sponsored program is restricted external funding, in contrast to a gift, which is unrestricted. If a program requests a statement of work or financial reporting, it's almost certainly a sponsored program and not a gift. You can find more details on our sponsored program submission page.
