Admission Requirements

Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university

Satisfactory grade point average (GPA)

Satisfactory test scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)*

Officially accredited B2 Spanish level according to The Common European Framework for Languages. Some accredited tests are: DELE, CELU, BULATS, SIELE. If you have questions, please contact the program director, Diana Meza.

*Applicants who have significant work experience in an educational setting may apply for a GRE Waiver of the GRE requirement for admission to the program. In these cases, applicants must prove that they are licensing practicing teachers and/or that they have 5 years or more of experience teaching Spanish in an organizational setting.

Application Materials

Prospective students must submit their applications online. Students who need a paper format due to a disability should contact the JMU’s Office of Disability Services to determine their eligibility for accommodations in the application process.

International applicants are required to submit additional materials.


For the summer 2019 the application deadline is March 15, 2019.
