Here are ways you can join Student Government Association:

  1. Elections: Elections take place at the beginning of the Fall semester and the end of the Spring semester. The Fall and Spring Minor elections allow JMU students to run for Class Council or Senator positions, whether for an academic college or for a class council. The Spring Major elections elect the Student Body President, Student Body Vice President, Executive Treasurer and the Student Representative to the Board of Visitors.

  2. Applications: Following the elections, SGA accepts applications for At-Large Senators and Representatives. These positions are filled as seen fit by a committee. The application process occurs later in the Spring semester and in the Fall semester. Applications are currently closed.

Spring 2022 Elections

  • Election Day will be March 29th, 2022 from 7am to 7pm
  • Mandatory Candidate Interest Meetings will be March 1st at 12pm and March 3rd at 7pm
  • Candidate Application Packets will be distributed after the interest meetings and upon submission of the packets with applicable student signatures (if your position requires it) candidates may begin campaigning.
    • Major positions require the signatures of 200 current JMU students
    • Class Council positions require the signatures of 50 current JMU students
    • Academic College positions do not require signatures
  • Final Results will be announced on March 31st
