CAL Grant Writing Academy

Applications due by January 23

Are you a CAL faculty member interested in learning more about the external funding landscape for research in the humanities, arts, and social sciences? Do you have a project idea that you would like to develop into an external funding proposal? Would you benefit from structured training and support to guide you through each step of the process? If so, please consider applying to participate in the spring 2026 CAL Grant Writing Academy. Participants will receive a letter documenting their completion of the CAL Grant Writing Academy for their annual evaluation and promotion dossier. Interested faculty should complete a short application by Friday, January 23, 2026. The group will meet on the following Tuesdays from 3:00-4:30 pm:

  • Session 1: Navigating the External Funding Landscape – Tuesday, February 3
  • Session 2: From Project Idea to One-Page Summary – Tuesday, February 10
  • Session 3: Budget Basics and the JMU Internal Approval Process – Tuesday, February 24
  • Session 4: Drafting the Proposal Narrative – Tuesday, March 24
  • Session 5: Other Sponsor Requirements - Tuesday, March 31
  • Session 6: Proposal Review and Feedback – Tuesday, April 14

CISE Grant Writing Academy

Private Research Workspace Available at JMU X-Labs

January 28 / Lakeview Hall

Are you part of a team working on research or an invention idea? JMU X-Labs is seeking proposals from cross-disciplinary teams of faculty members, students, or a combination of both, to utilize a private workspace for research. The selected team would have access to support from JMU X-Labs leadership to journey their research from ideation to proof of concept to alpha prototype, in addition to training and access to equipment in The Lab.

JMU Esports Open House + VR Showcase in Partnership with ISAT

January 30, 5:00-7:00 PM / The Arena, Lakeview Hall

Faculty are invited to this traditionally student-focused event where interested Dukes learn about JMU Esports teams, participate in a mini broadcast workshop, and enjoy open play among fellow gamers. This event will also feature a special virtual reality demonstration based on the creative work of the School of Integrated Science and Technology faculty. Attendees will be the first to experience two new virtual reality apps!

February Madison Research Club: Artificial Intelligence: Interdisciplinary Collaborations

Madison Research Club’s February session will feature a series of 3-minute lightning talks on AI, designed to foster connections and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers working on these topics. Each presenter will briefly introduce themselves and share insights into their research. This session offers a valuable opportunity to connect with fellow researchers across campus who share similar research interests.
